We had an awesome snow day! It didn't start out awesome. Though the news stations all warned against it and all the other "daddies" I know stayed home for the day, Graham went to work before 8am. And I started out the day angry. I was worried about Graham's safety for one. And I kept thinking about how much fun all the other families were having...breakfast in pjs, playing outside with Daddy, snuggling by the fire. And there we were, starting out the day with cranky kids and no Daddy. We were standing at the window, watching other daddies sledding down the street with their kids (yes the street, because no one else was driving on it), and I was stewing.
And then I thought, hey, what is wrong with me? Why am I so ungrateful? I have a wonderful husband, a husband who is a hard worker. He is working so hard to take care of us...and so that I can stay home and care for our children. So that I can help them make memories...not spend the day sulking. So, we took about 20 minutes to get dressed up, and we went out to sled. It was freezing, there was a lot of falling on the ice, it was really hard for me to keep both of them from slipping and falling too much and take pictures at the same time, and we spent way more time dressing to go out than we actually did outside. And it was so much fun! We came in, drank hot cocoa, made cinnamon bread, watched Sesame street all snuggled together...it was wonderful.

And guess what...later that afternoon, Daddy did come home...he even stopped at the grocery store for me so I wouldn't have to get out. He took care of the kids so that I could cook dinner in peace. And...we all had an even better time sledding with him when he got there.
There are so many blessings around us, so many things the Lord gives us that we simply overlook--everyday, all the time. We are so good at focusing on what is frustrating, what we don't have and wish we did, how people let us down, that we often miss the abundant gifts the Lord gives us daily. I hope these pictures forever remind me to choose to see the many undeserved blessings the Lord gives to me each day. He is so good.
